Creamy buffalo chicken dip is always a hit at game day parties. It is cheesy with just enough spice. Dig in with celery sticks or tortilla chips for the perfect filling appetizer.

If you are looking for a simple but delicious buffalo chicken dip recipe, you are in the right place. This dip has been featured at more parties than I can count and it is a hit every time!

My family has been buffalo chicken dip fans for as long as I can remember. We have to make double and triple batches if we are all going to be around.

We just love how easy it is to put together. Plus, it is filling and oh so tasty.

It makes an appearance for game day gatherings, of course! But we also make it for birthdays and just because.

Besides Jalapeno poppers, it has to be one of our most frequently made appetizers. And I’ve never heard one complaint about that.

Alterations and Variations

Over the years, family members have taken the base recipe and made it their own. The recipe below is our favorite way to enjoy buffalo chicken dip, but here are some ideas for ways to change it up.

My sister, Kristie, likes to poach her chicken breasts in extra hot sauce before shredding it. She also adds diced green peppers.

My grandma uses blue cheese dressing instead of ranch. She sometimes uses blue cheese crumbles in place of the cheddar cheese too.

Leftover chicken, poached chicken or even canned chicken works for this dip. You can also cook frozen chicken breasts in the instant pot and they’ll be ready to shred in no time.

If you don’t like ranch dressing, you can ise sour cream or Greek yogurt instead. You can also experiment with cheeses other than cheddar.

Of course, you can add more or less hot sauce to match your flavor preferences. Or experiment with different kinds of hot sauce.

Feel free to add some green onion or chives if you would like. Or some chopped cilantro for garnish would be tasty.

You can double the recipe and bake it in a 9×13-inch pan. Just add a few minutes to the baking time.

Serving Your Dip

We love eating this dip with tortilla chip or pita chips.  It is also great with big corn chips.

There is just something about warm gooey dip with a crunchy chip that keeps you coming back for more! Or dig in with celery sticks, they are sturdy and add a nice fresh crunch to the mix.

More Spicy Recipes to Try

For a cold dip that is still loaded with flavor, try making some cheesy fiesta dip. It is a nice cold sour cream based dip that is loaded with flavor and perfect with tortilla chips.

If you aren’t in the mood for a dip, but still want the buffalo chicken flavor we also recommend buffalo chicken taquitos or buffalo chicken lasagna!
