Creamy homemade chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and peanut butter cups mixed right in.  This is a chocolate and peanut butter lover’s dream come true!

This homemade chocolate peanut butter ice cream recipe is sure to make you fall in love. It is rich, creamy, and features one of our favorite flavor combinations.

The chocolate ice cream base would be wonderful on it’s own, but the chunks of peanut butter and peanut butter cups make it even better. In fact, I recommend you go ahead and buy enough ingredients for two batches.

So many favorites packed into one great recipe!

This ice cream is so good and easy to make too.  You’ll want to print the recipe and make it on repeat.

MiMi originally made this recipe and shared it back in 2015.  She was on a homemade ice cream kick and was creating all sorts of fun flavors.

She has since slowed down on making ice cream and I have taken over the dessert committee.  But now that I have my own ice cream maker, I have been going back and remaking her great recipes.

adding chunks of frozen peanut butter and peanut butter cups to churning chocolate ice cream.

That allows us to relive our favorites and it gives me an excuse to share them with you again!  It’s really a great win for everyone!

So now we have spiffier recipe cards, new pictures, and a little more commentary about what works well when you put this easy recipe together.

Making the Ice Cream

This ice cream is pretty simple to put together. It is built on our favorite egg free chocolate ice cream recipe.

We love that recipe because it is smooth, creamy, and only takes a few minutes to get the base ready. You can be churning ice cream in less than 10 minutes and that includes getting the ingredients out!

My husband’s favorite ice cream is chocolate with peanut butter swirl. So our original plan was to try to do that.

Swirling thick peanut butter through cold ice cream and getting it somewhat even is a bit of a task.  Stirring in frozen bits of peanut butter is much easier!

So we decided adding frozen bits of peanut butter was good enough. It gives a similar effect, but can be done much more efficiently.

Of course adding some chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups never hurt a chocolate and peanut butter recipe. So we added some here too.

They are optional, but totally recommended.

We were all sad when we got to the bottom of this batch of ice cream. It is always so good.

Luckily it is easy to make, so we can whip it up again.  But first we have so many other ice creams to try.

My husband is a huge fan of homemade blackberry ice cream, so that is on the agenda as soon as our berries start to ripen.   And I have already had requests from family for more monster cookie ice cream

If you like chocolate and peanut butter together, you should try peanut butter dirt pudding as well. Or make a chocolate peanut butter ice cream cake with either homemade or store bought ice cream.
