Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

This hot chocolate mix is easy to make and is so creamy and delicious. You can put it in jars to give as gifts or just keep in on hand for yourself!

From hence forth this week shall be known as hot chocolate week!  Hip hip hooray!  As I run around the house decorating for Christmas, there are two things that MUST be present.

  1. Christmas music
  2. Hot chocolate
Matt only appreciates one of these things, and it's not the music!  Too bad for him.  While the tree is being trimmed either an old classic Christmas movie must be on, or the music.  I don't care which one it is, but it has to be one.  It's not an option.  Not even a little bit.

This hot chocolate recipe is perfect for having on hand when the feeling strikes.  It is also great as a gift.  MiMi, Jax and I made a few batches the other day and put it in jars.  That way each of my siblings can have some homemade hot chocolate as they get their houses ready for Christmas as well!

The cocoa only takes a minute or two to make.  A quick buzz in the food processor and you are ready to package it!  When it is time to enjoy it, all you have to do is measure out a few tablespoons full and add boiling water.  We did the taste tester mug with the Keurig, just put the cocoa mix in the cup and add the hot water.  Jax was the official taste tester and he approved!

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

Ingredients:

1/3 cup cocoa
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups powdered milk

  1. Chop chocolate in the food processor until small chunks.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and process until powdery and well mixed.
To serve:

  1. Add 4-5 T of hot chocolate mix into 8 oz boiling water.  Stir until dissolved and enjoy!

  10. I agree, got to have the Christmas music while decorating the tree. We did this yesterday, but my husband wasn't so keen on the music either! I haven't made home made hot chocolate before but I'm thinking of doing some for Christmas. Thanks for sharing your recipe with the Blog Fair.

    1. There are so many fun recipes for hot chocolate I want to try! This is great because one you have the mix, you can make the hot chocolate one mug at a time. I need to get the recipe my mom made last Christmas. She had a big pot going on the stove and served it with fresh whipped cream and peppermint sprinkles. YUM!

    1. How fun! There are some crock pot versions out there that look amazing too! I REALLY want to do a cookies and cocoa open house this year, but I just don't know how it would fit in. December is always so busy and goes so fast! I love the idea of Carols & Cookies. Maybe I'll just come to your party ;-)
