This recipe was originally shared back in December of 2015. I know most of you didn’t know I existed back then, so I thought it was past time to dust it off and share it with you again.

It is fabulous because this mix is so simple to make and stores well. Then you can have a mug of homemade hot chocolate any time.

You only need a few simple ingredients and a food processor and you are ready to go. Then put your mix in jars or gifting or storing.

We made hot chocolate themed gift baskets several years ago. Then we had snowman jars for our homemade white hot chocolate mix.

Those together with some chocolate dipped Rudolph marshmallows and easy snowman marshmallows makes for a super cute gift. Or display them all for a festive hot cocoa bar at a winter party.

No matter how you decide to serve it, you will be glad you had the foresight to make some yummy mix to have on hand. After all a sip of warm creamy hot chocolate makes a cold winter day a lot easier to take!

Make a Homemade Version of the Powdered Hot Cocoa Mix

This easy recipe only takes a minute or two to make. A few simple ingredients and a quick buzz in the food processor and you are ready to package it.

When it is time to enjoy it, all you have to do is measure out a few tablespoons full and add boiling water. A quick stir and your mug is ready to be enjoyed or topped with your favorite additions.

Mini marshmallows are a classic addition to a nice mug of hot chocolate, but crushed candy canes are tasty as well. You can try whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon as well.

You can also add some of these ingredients to you jar if you plan to give the mix away. You are giving the gift of nostalgia without the preservatives or artificial flavors.

Easy Alterations

We really like the recipe just the way it is written. It reminds me a lot of the packets of Swiss Miss you get at the grocery store.

However, one of the most fun parts about making it your own hot chocolate mix is you get to make it your own. If you like a little spice, try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mix.

Or use coconut sugar instead of granulated if that is more your style. This is your chance to make it your own.

How fun! There are some crock pot versions out there that look amazing too! I REALLY want to do a cookies and cocoa open house this year, but I just don't know how it would fit in. December is always so busy and goes so fast! I love the idea of Carols & Cookies. Maybe I'll just come to your party ;-)

I agree, got to have the Christmas music while decorating the tree. We did this yesterday, but my husband wasn't so keen on the music either! I haven't made home made hot chocolate before but I'm thinking of doing some for Christmas. Thanks for sharing your recipe with the Blog Fair.

There are so many fun recipes for hot chocolate I want to try! This is great because one you have the mix, you can make the hot chocolate one mug at a time. I need to get the recipe my mom made last Christmas. She had a big pot going on the stove and served it with fresh whipped cream and peppermint sprinkles. YUM!
