Apple Cider Waffles

Please share

Apple cider waffles are flavorful and easy to make. You can enjoy them with sweet or savory toppings. Use them as a base for pulled pork or drizzle them with syrup or caramel.

During apple season, it is fun to work apples into every meal. Adding apple cider and a bit of cinnamon to waffles make them smell great and taste even better.

These apple cider waffles can be enjoyed with sweet or savory toppings. We have enjoyed them piled with apple cider pulled pork and apple slaw for dinner. Of course they are wonderful with a drizzle of maple syrup too.

For a real treat, try them drizzled with apple cider caramel and topped with a dollop of whipped cream. They are hard to beat!

I originally made this recipe as another fun option to serve pulled pork with. We have a bit of an obsession around here and we love trying our pork in a variety of forms and not just sandwiches.

So the first batch was used for exactly that. But when recipe testing, you end up with extra waffles and they would have been great with more pork.

The problem was I had a jar of what was left of some homemade apple caramel sauce in the fridge and it was nagging at me.  Things as delicious as that can’t just sit around forever and I knew these waffles would be the perfect excuse er, vehicle upon which to eat the caramel.

You guys….. I cannot even explain how good it was together.  Of course a little freshly whipped cream on top never hurt anything, nor did the sprinkle of cinnamon.

Ooooh, or top your waffles with some chunks of cinnamon apples and maple whipped cream. Can you imagine?! Slow cooker cinnamon apples would be tasty or make Instant Pot cinnamon apples if you are in a hurry.

The waffles themselves are not overly sweet, so they really do work in both sweet and savory applications. You might as well plan to make a double batch and enjoy some both ways.

More Fall Breakfast Ideas

If you like apples for breakfast, try making some apple pie baked oats. They are delicious, nutritious and full of fresh apples.

Or whip up some pumpkin apple muffins for a great make ahead breakfast option. The recipe came from my husband’s grandpa and it is a favorite.

Apple cinnamon steel cut oatmeal is another great option. It is absolutely loaded with apple goodness.

Hi,

Could you use applesauce in place of the apple cider or a heart healthy oil? Thank You!

I haven't tried either, but I don't see why not. You may need a little additional liquid if you use applesauce, but that would be the choice I would lean towards so you still get the apple flavor. Of course apple juice would be a good option as well.

Our local orchard makes the best cider. We always have to stock up and get extra for the freezer. Yum!
