I wouldn't say Kristie is necessarily a picky eater, but there are a fair number of foods she doesn't like. One thing she almost always likes though, is breakfast. So a fun, playful, country inspired brunch it was! Poor Chloe (the baby) is still in college, so she helped plan from afar. She was in charge of picking out some games and dealing with my panicked phone calls when I couldn't make a decision (and for that she wins an award). I can't help it, I get into the planning!
So after a last minute waffling back and forth about what kind of cinnamon rolls to make, we finally got it all nailed down. I made blackberry spread from our homegrown berries, spiced peach jam and granola as the party grew closer. Luckily I had the day before off, so I got up and got to baking. Three batches of muffins and some cinnamon bun cookies later, I was hitting my stride. We did mix and match Fiesta place settings with fun colorful napkins.
Chloe came to town in time to get the games set up and put together the yogurt parfaits for me. Apple pie filling, vanilla yogurt and homemade granola made a perfect parfait for this time of year (or any time of year for my non-berry eating middle sister!) MiMi helped me get the tables set.
The next morning was a flurry of activity getting all of those things that couldn't be done ahead done. Chloe baked the cinnamon rolls (she probably didn't want to hear me talk about them anymore!) I baked biscuits, made sausage gravy, and got the scrambled eggs ready to go.
Then the guests started rolling in! We started with a quick game of guess how many kisses game. Then everyone stuffed themselves. A few more games and plenty of presents later, I'd say it was a smashing success!
I am hoping our guests enjoyed the shower as much as we did. It is still hard to believe my little sister is getting married! The wedding is just a few weeks away and I'm in charge of desserts... so stay tuned!
