This cookies and cream cheese ball is the perfect dessert for your next tailgate or party. Of course you can do it as a ball, or even a dip in a bowl, but it is most fun shaped as a football with laces piped on. You can use a variety of dippers as well. We like chocolate sandwich cookies, graham crackers and even pretzels! Fruit would be great as well.
This fun dessert cheese ball is a perfect addition to your game day menu. After all of the wings, nachos and chili, a little chocolate is sure to hit the spot.

Don't worry if there isn't a football game on the TV though, you can serve this any old time. You can serve it as a dip or spread without shaping it into a football.
It will still be delicious, just maybe slightly less cute. Or cool. Or whatever you want to call food shaped into a football...
It would be great at any party or get together. In fact I would be tempted to make it just for a regular old day, but there's no way I could trust myself to not eat way too much of it without a crowd to help me make it disappear!

Luckily it is super simple to make and it's a great make ahead recipe. You can get it ready the day before even, so you can enjoy your guests or keep your eyes on the game.
It travels pretty well also, so you can take it to a tailgate or a big game party across town. Just bring plenty of dippers and you will be in good shape!
MiMi originally shared this recipe with us in 2015. I remade it in 2018 and shared some new pictures.
I was dying for an excuse to make it again, so I made a quick video of the process for you. Now you just need to invent an excuse to make one for yourself!

Original post from 2015:
MiMi came up with the idea to have a virtual tailgate for the big game. One of my cousins, my grandma, my mom and I all made an apple cake within 24 hours of each other a couple of weeks back and it was so much fun!
So, she thought it would be fun to see what everyone made to bring to our online "party." This is one of her contenders!
Normally when we think of cheese balls we think of savory. We love Ro's havarti cheese ball and of course the pig skin cheese ball is full of bacon and super popular on game day.
But not all cheese balls have to be savory. Why not make a sweet one?
While we are at it, why not make it chocolaty and full of sandwich cookies? After all, the cookies and cream layer cake was such a hit! So a cookies and cream cheese ball makes perfect sense too.

The first time MiMi made it, Little Dude had chocolate in his ears, his nose and all down his shirt. He asked for seconds too.
He loves "dip." So he made one pretzel last through two helpings of his chocolate dip!
This time he was old enough to help make it. He used the food processor to pulse the cookies into crumbs and make the cheese ball.
We had extra cookies in the pack and frosting from the laces, so we thought it would be fun to put laces on the sandwich cookies as well. He really enjoyed getting to decorate some of the cookies himself and he did a great job!

So now that we have dessert covered for game day, what else are you making?
More great recipes for sweet spreads and dips
If you like dessert cheese balls, you have to check out the recipe for red velvet cheese ball. It's perfect for most any occasion. It would be fun at Christmas time, but I especially love shaping it into a heart for Valentine's Day.
If you like peanut butter and monster cookies, you have to try monster cookie dip. It features the main ingredients of the cookies, but in a dippable form. It's positively wonderful!
A fun sweet and tangy option is lemon cheesecake dip. It is perfect with fruit, graham crackers, animal crackers and more!

Cookies and Cream Football Cheese Ball
Your guests are sure to RSVP to you football watching parties if they know you are making stuffed pizza footballs! They are also a great make and take for tailgates as well. We stuffed ours with pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni, but you could use your favorite toppings!
Prep time: 15 Mininactive time: 1 HourTotal time: 1 H & 15 M
Ingredients:
- 24 chocolate sandwich cookies
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 2 T chocolate syrup
- 2 cups powdered Sugar
- White frosting or white chocolate for decorating*
- additional cookies, graham crackers, pretzels etc. for serving
Instructions:
- Either finely chop 12 of the sandwich cookies or pulse them into small pieces in your food processor.
- In food processor or mixer, blend cream cheese, butter and chocolate syrup.
- Blend in powdered sugar and then stir in finely chopped sandwich cookies.
- Roll into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap.
- Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
- Chop remaining sandwich cookies. Then shape cheese ball into a football and coat with bits of sandwich cookies. Press them in to secure.
- Use white icing or melted white chocolate to form laces.
- Serve with pretzels, grahams, small cookies etc.
Notes:
To make a simple icing, just mix together about a half cup of powdered sugar with a drop or two of vanilla and a teaspoon or two of milk. Add a drop or two more milk at a time until it forms a thick paste. Place it in a plastic bag and snip a small piece off the corner. Use that to pipe the laces on the cheese ball and cookies.

DeleteHi Carlee, Little Dude sounds like he's going to be just like his Mum. I have visions of him covered in chocolate, but having a great time... That pretzel must have been soggy by the time he finished that dip. Having a bit of a sweet tooth this sweet cheeseball appeals to me.
