There are so many things to love about a Texas sheet cake. In fact, my family loves them so much that we have a whole collection of recipes in quite a few different flavors. However there is just something about the original chocolaty Texas sheet cake. It is the perfect combination of soft cake and rich fudgy fuss free icing. It brings back all the tasty nostalgia!
I remember this cake was quite a treat at Grandma's house when I was a kid. It is a great cake for a crowd because it is baked in a half sheet pan.
I am one of six kids and so is my dad, so when we get together a nice big cake is in order. Maybe that is why this recipe was such a staple during my childhood.

The cake is super easy to make. You don't have to soften and cream butter, just toss everything in the saucepan and let the heat do the work for you.
It results in such a tasty moist cake and there really isn't much effort in throwing it together. It would likely be great on it's own, but we all know I'm not one to skip frosting a cake!
The fudge icing really makes the cake. This is a fudgy wonderfully sweet and smooth frosting.

You just pour it over the cake, so there is no concern of getting it smooth and perfect. Besides, it is fun to make a cake and frosting from scratch and not have to drag out the mixer!
I have seen other recipes for Texas sheet cake, but most don't have the cinnamon. This is a great touch that makes this cake stand apart. It is just enough to give some character. MMMM!

That is a yummy cake. I always like to sprinkle in a pinch of ground hot pepper too. After all, Texans like everything with a little heat.
