They are a fabulous addition to salads like a fall dinner salad with apples, cranberries and blue cheese.  Candied pecans also take a fruit and chicken salad with poppy seed dressing to the next level.

MiMi originally shared this recipe with us back in 2015.  She made a pumpkin slab pie and put a honeyed pecan on top of the dollop of whipped cream.

They sat like glistening jewels on top of their perch.  Not to mention they tasted amazing with the pumpkin and cream.

I thought it would be fun to whip up another batch today. So it seemed like an excellent time to remind you about these little gems as well.

Make them this Christmas season as a fabulous way to set your dishes apart.  Sometimes you just need that one little extra special something to take a meal from good to great. These can be that something.

I came up with these to go with Steve’s birthday Pumpkin Pie. When grandma told me that he wanted a pumpkin pie I couldn’t believe my ears.

Is this the same guy we helped crack pecans so he would make us a wonderful fresh pecan pie? Ok, then grandma.

I’ll make him that pumpkin pie but we must top it with pecans. I was going to make spiced pecans, but decided that I didn’t want to take away from the spice combo in the pie.

Pecans, salt and honey sounded perfect. I guess it tasted perfect too. At least a couple of people said so.

Ingredients
 

  • cups pecan halves
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable or canola oil
  • teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ cup honey

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Stir together the pecans, oil and salt. Spread on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 7 minutes.
    2½ cups pecan halves, 1 teaspoon vegetable or canola oil, ⅓ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • While the pecans are toasting, bring the honey to a boil over medium heat in a medium saucepan.
    ½ cup honey
  • Add the baked pecans to the boiling honey and stir to coat for a minute or two.
  • Let cool slightly, then spread on a piece of parchment paper (or wax paper) to cool and dry. Make sure to do this while they are still warm otherwise they will stick together. Allow to cool completely.
