MiMi's Birthday Cake (French Butter Cake with Fudge Icing)

I've been on a roll with recipes from my great-grandma Peggy.  First there was her German Chocolate Cake with Broiled Coconut Frosting that was out of this world good.  I mean broiled frosting!!  You have to check it out if you haven't already.  Then there was her Apple Crisp.  I mean really, it is hard to go wrong with an apple crisp, especially this time of year.  The funny thing this cake was the one I made first out of the three of them.

Great-Grandma Peggy's Apple Crisp

This simple apple crisp recipe comes straight from my great-grandma, so you know it has to be good! Celebrate fall with a easy treat!

I know #appleweek is over, but I just couldn't help but to make one more apple dish to share with you this fall.  I actually got this recipe from MiMi during apple week, but it was too late to get it added.  So, I am sharing it with you now.  This recipe comes from my great-grandma Peggy via my Maw-Maw and then through MiMi.

Turkey Tamale Pie

This fun dinner has the flavor of tamales in a quick and fun casserole form. It is a perfectly flavorful weeknight dinner that is sure to be a hit!

I have some news that I haven't told you yet... I got a new job!  Of course a new job means lots to learn and a different schedule.  I will be spending a lot less time on the interstate, which is a relief.  However everything feels a little extra hectic right now.

Full disclosure... it's not just the job, there's also an upcoming move for my parents which involves a big remodel my husband is spearheading, we're hosting a chili cookoff, there's a wedding (and shower etc.) for my little sister, and a little dude that lives in my house that is so superdy duper excited about all of the upcoming holidays.  The last thing I want to do is shortchange him on something he is so looking forward to while we are in the most magical years.

Pizza Toscana

Take those classic flavors of zuppa toscana and turn them into a pizza! The creamy pizza is studded with sausage, potato and kale for a one of a kind experience.

You do not have to limit your pizza game to red sauce and pepperoni.  There is a whole world of toppings out there waiting to be tried! This pizza takes the flavors from one of my favorite soups, the old Olive Garden standby of zuppa toscana and put them on a pizza. The results were absolutely delicious!

Sourdough Pizza Crust

I have been wanting to share this recipe with you for quite some time... but our pizzas always disappear so quickly and I never measure what goes on top... so it is hard to post.  But it is high time I tell you how we love to make our dough.  Afterall, pizza is pizza and we need to be able to make lots of it!

Whole Wheat Banana Bread

Delicious loaves of banana bread kissed with brown sugar and mixed with the nutty goodness of whole wheat flour. This combination could quickly become your new favorite!

It is the end of the Cake Slice Year.  So this  is the last bake from Maida Heatter's Cakes.  I say that with really mixed feelings.  I have really enjoyed almost every single thing I've made from the book.  I have really enjoyed seeing what everyone else made as well.

French Silk Brownies #Choctoberfest

I received product in exchange for writing this post, but all opinions are my own.

It seemed like it was about time I make something unabashedly rich and chocolaty for Chocotoberfest.  Don't you agree?  I wanted something that really shows my love for all things chocolate.  Something that really scream me.  Something dangerously good.  But I just couldn't decide weather to make something dark, gooey and fudgy or creamy, whipped and delicious. So I incorporated both!

You're welcome!

Great Grandma's German Chocolate Cake with Broiled Coconut Frosting

My great grandma topped her german chocolate cake with a coconut frosting, but it's different than what you may be thinking.  It's a broiled coconut frosting! You just have to try this!

I never had the pleasure of knowing my Great-Grandma Peggy.  But all of the stories I have heard about her make her seem like a spunky yet classy lady.  I know my Great-Grandpa Buchsbaum was head over heals for her and it seems like they had quite the life together.  My Maw-Maw, her daughter and my maternal grandmother, recently sent a few more family recipes for me to try.  Of course I couldn't wait to give this cake a go!

Dark and Delicious Mocha Cookies

These dark and delicious mocha cookies are full of chocolate and coffee flavor.  Your favorite baristas are going to miss you when you start eating your mocha instead!

I received product for review purposes, but all opinions are my own.

So what is a girl to do when some delicious Caveman Coffee Co Sabertooth Roast shows up at her house?   Well take a few big whiff of the wonderful aroma and smile from ear to ear, of course!  But at some point you have to actually do something with those beautiful beans.

Of course I will be drinking most of it and can't wait to try some with the cacao butter they also sent.  Caveman Mocha, here I come!  But, in the spirit of #choctoberfest I couldn't help but to do a little baking with it as well.  I mean, hello, I am me after-all!

Pumpkin Ooey Gooey Cake

Are ooey gooey cakes a thing where you live?  We are just a couple hours outside of St. Louis and if St. Louis is known for anything (outside of baseball and the arch of course) it is ooey gooey cake.  For the un-ooeyed of you out there, ooey gooey butter cake is part buttery, cakey crust and part ooey gooey cheesecakey topping.  You usually dust it in powdered sugar and go to town.  It's just how it's done.

Lisa's Pumpkin Soup

This savory pumpkin soup is perfect for fall! It is creamy and kissed with yogurt and whipped up with fun spices as well.  It will warm you from the inside out!

I'm sorry.  No, truly.  I'm so sorry.  I feel like I didn't prepare you for all of this fun.  I was so busy telling you about #appleweek that I didn't have time to properly prepare you for what was coming behind it.  That's right, batten down the hatches because #pumpkinweek is blowing into town!  I really want to tell you there is something super fun coming behind that to (because there totally is!! EEEEEK!)  But right now we need to focus on the matter at hand, pumpkins and lots of them!
