Top 17 posts of 2017

With the coming of a new year, it seems like a great time to reflect on the past year. So here is a look at the recipes you loved the most in 2017!

Somehow 2017 is coming to a close.  I am not quite sure how that happened.  It seems like just yesterday I was making Easter bread and Easter egg blondies for our Easter celebration.  Then it was straight to red, white and blueberry salads for the 4th of July and we steamrolled right through apple pie steel cut oatmeal, an apple dinner salad, apple and bacon pizza, applesauce cake with caramel frosting and a peanut butter yogurt fruit dip for #appleweek.

The next thing you know we are roasting fall vegetables, making sweet potato casserole and churning out the sugar cookies, peanut butter blossoms, and peppermint mocha shortbread cookies for Christmas.  After all of that good food and loads of the fun we have had along the way, I am still scratching my head wondering how we got here!

Healthy Eats

A collection of healthy recipes to get the new year started off right!

Oh my goodness, Christmas was a whirlwind around here.  Little Dude loves celebrations of any sort. He is a sucker for a party, just like me.  He loves to make sure things are festive, decorated and of course that there is candy on the table for pretty much any gathering.  So it is not surprising that he was really excited about Christmas.

Grandma's Copycat Kelly's Cheese Soup

This cheese soup is a copycat recipe my family has enjoyed for years. It is full of vegetables, pasta and creamy cheesy goodness. It's a regional favorite and soon to be a favorite for you as well!

My town has a group of restaurants that are some of the most popular in town.  They are all owned by a local family and have some of the best food around.  In fact, my husband worked at one for a good part of his twenties.  It serves pizza and Mexican food.  I know it sounds like a strange combo, but it really works.  Add in pitchers are margaritas and you are really in business.

Kelly's is the Irish pub version of the four hot spots.  They serve great burgers, salads, sandwiches, chicken fingers and all of the things you would expect at a family pub.  They also have a salad bar with everything you would expect plus big fluffy cinnamon rolls and their famous cheese soup.

Chocolate Cherry Fudge Bundt Cake

This fun chocolate and cherry filled bundt cake comes together in a snap and is so much fun to serve and eat. It was one of the recipes that my mom had loaded and ready in the recipe box she gave me and it is a family favorite!

Does your family go through food phases?  Mine certainly does.  For a little while one thing is all the rage.  For a little while a few years back it was bundt cakes.  My mom and grandma collected everything that had to do with them.

Skillet Cornbread

There is nothing like a cast iron skillet full of fresh cornbread from the oven. It is perfect with soup, stew or chili. It is also amazing with some butter and a drizzle of honey!

'Tis the season of soups, stews and chili. There is just something comforting about knowing there is a pot perking on the stove or something simmering in the slow cooker.

Super Simple Rum Balls

A flavorful adult treat perfect for the holidays, these no-bake rum balls are quick to make and even better when made ahead. They'll warm you from the inside out!

Sometimes a quick and simple treat is in order.  Luckily these rum balls are just that thing.  They are best when made a few days in advance, but they require very little work and no time in the oven.  So they are perfect when the holiday baking season is in full swing and the cookie trays are filling up faster than the oven can cook them.

22 of the Best Cookies for Your Christmas Goodie Trays

So many great cookie recipes.  There will be something for everyone on your list. Christmas cookies have never looked so good!

It is crunch time for holiday baking.  We have already passed out a healthy dose of Christmas trays, so I have my supply of cookies to a {somewhat} reasonable level.  Maybe I've made enough room to make more cookies?! Either way, I thought it would be fun to round up some of my favorites from our virtual cookie exchange and highlight a few that are on my list of goodies to make.

Maple Pumpkin Pie

This pumpkin pie is kissed with a bit of maple flavor to heighten the warm sweet notes. Such a small change makes a big difference!

I know pumpkin pie is usually reserved for Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure why. If you like it, have it any time! I enjoy pumpkin pie baked oatmeal all fall and winter, so why not the pie too?

Maple Crunch Sweet Potato Casserole

This Maple Crunch Sweet Potato Casserole is a smooth maple kissed filling topped with a perfectly crumbly and filled with oats and pecans. Your holiday table won't be complete without it!

Fall and winter holidays call for sweet potatoes. They are definitely a Thanksgiving staple but also go well with a Christmas ham.  Come to think of it, they're delicious with an Easter ham or just because it's dinner time pork roast as well!

No Bake Christmas Tree Cookies

These festive cookies are a Christmasy twist on a favorite family recipe. They are no-bake and sure to put a smile on your face!

Ho ho ho! I just love having plenty of cookies around during the holidays. I tend to bring a tray everywhere we go during the weeks leading up to Christmas. That is a lot of places, so I get to make a lot of cookies.

Big and Chewy Chocolate Mint Chip Cookies

Chewy chocolate cookies packed completely full with chocolate and mint candy bits.  They are festive, easy and sure to please!

The combination of mint and chocolate always makes me think of the holidays. Whether it's candy cane ice cream topped with simple hot fudge or a box of fine chocolates with mint meltaways, the flavors are sure to put a smile on my face and a ho ho ho in my head.

Monday, December 4, 2017

Peppermint Mocha Shortbread Cookies

These peppermint mocha shortbread cookies are just like the coffee house drink but in chewable form. Put some on your Christmas cookie trays to take them to the next level!

I received a bottle of Neilsen-Massey coffee extract for recipe creation.  As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

I know plenty of people who are gaga over pumpkin spice lattes. You know the kind. August rolls around and they anxiously await the announcement that they are coming and they run to the coffee shop the first day they are available. Don't get me wrong, I'll very happily drink one if you're bringing it to me. It's rude to say no to delicious things after all.

A Cookie Exchange Celebrate 365 Style

It's Christmas cookie season! Come find some great new ideas for this year's cookie trays and share your best cookie recipes!

Holiday baking season is upon us! I just love making treats to give to family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.  Of course we need a nice spread of treats out when guests come to visit this time of year as well.  There are some cookies that we have to have every year. It just wouldn't be Christmas without them. But I like having a few new treats each year as well, something to keep it interesting for guests and myself!

Uncommon Holiday Gifts for Everyone on Your List

Disclaimer: I was provided with a free product in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed herein are my own and not influenced by the developing company, and/or it’s affiliates, in any way.

If you want help finding the perfect original gift that will stand out from the crowd, have I got the thing for you!  Whether you are looking for a birthday, Christmas or a personalized wedding present there is something for everyone!

How is your holiday shopping going? I am normally one of those annoying people who has it all done by the time Thanksgiving weekend comes to a close. I know, insert eye rolls here.

This year is different though. My list of people to buy for is longer than ever and there are very few checkmarks. I am just having the hardest time getting ideas for fun and original gifts.

Ellen's German Chocolate Cake

The German Chocolate Cake has all of the coconut and chocolate goodness you'd expect. It is a show stopper perfect for a party!

In case you didn't know, this little corner of the internet all started with an email. It was winter and I needed something to entertain myself.  So I asked family members to send me recipes to make. I thought it would be good to get my hands on the recipes I loved growing up and perhaps get a few new modern recipes to try too.

Grandma's Chicken Broccoli Casserole

This chicken and broccoli casserole is a great way to get dinner on the table quickly.  It is a perfect way to use leftover chicken or turkey as well!

My husbands's grandma sent me this recipe as a response to the original email I sent out that started this wild ride.  I had some leftover turkey breast from when I made turkey and homemade egg noodles.  This recipe seemed like a great way to use it up.  Obviously you can used leftover roast chicken, chicken breasts or you could pick up a rotisserie chicken at the store.

Easy Family Meal Plan Week 46

5 delicious dinners and a fun chocolaty treat, this week's menu is planned and your family is going to love it!

Whew! We survived Thanksgiving. I hope yours was wonderful as well if you celebrate. We had the best time getting to see family and eat tons of good food.  My jeans may not be happy this week, but that is a small price to pay! We are still working our way through leftovers and not complaining a bit about it either.

Butternut Risotto

I received produce from Melissa's for recipe development in conjunction with #FabulousFallBounty. All opinions are honest and my own.

This butternut risotto is the perfect fall comfort food. It is fancy enough for a dinner party but is all the creamy, comforting goodness you want it to be.

I have been craving a good risotto ever since the weather cooled down. There is just something about the creamy hearty goodness that just makes you feel better. It is so comforting and I just love the feelings it evokes.

Persimmon and Beet Salad with Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese

I received a box of produce from Melissa's for recipe development and a serving platter from Le Creuset for #FabulousFallBounty.  All opinions are honest and my own.

A fun sweet and savory salad with beets, persimmons, goat cheese and pecans lightly dressed in a homemade salad dressing. It is a perfect starter or a great lunch.

I couldn't get a big box of produce from Melissa's without putting together a great salad.  The instant I saw the steamed and peeled beets, I thought they were the perfect thing to build a salad on.  Have you seen them in the store? They take all of the mess out of prepping the beets.  Plus they are instantly ready for a salad!

Fabulous Fall Roasted Pork Loin with Apples and Vegetables

I received a box of produce from Melissa's for recipe development for #FabulousFallBounty.  All opinions are honest and my own.

A simple but delicious pork loin cooked with apples, fennel and fall vegetables. You are going to love the slightly sweet and savory combination that puts dinner on the table in one pot.

Are you as big of a fan of fall flavors as I am? They are so cozy, hearty and fun.  So I have really been enjoying whipping up tasty creations with all of the lovely produce Melissa's sent.  This time I decided to make a whole meal in one pot.  Chop the fruit and veggies, top it with pork and seasonings and stick it in the oven to do its thing.  Next thing you know your house will smell amazing and dinner will be ready. It's a no fuss but super flavorful dinner.

Sweet and Savory Pear and Brie Flatbread

I received produce from Melissa's and a Silpat for recipe development in conjunction with #FabulousFallBounty. All opinions are honest and my own.

This sweet and savory appetizer is full of all the good stuff.  Pears, melty brie and fresh flatbread. It is quick, easy and oh so tasty!

Holiday parties call for appetizers. They are usually one of my favorite parts. In fact, parties could all totally be appetizer and dessert buffets and I would be totally fine with that!

So I thought I would make you a fun flatbread that is perfect for a holiday nosh table. It would also be fun served with a simple salad for lunch. Or heck, it would be perfect with a bottle of wine and a date with the couch. No judging here, however you want to enjoy it is fine with me!

Maple Glazed Roasted Fall Vegetables with Chestnuts

I received produce from Melissa's and a serving platter from Le Creuset for recipe development in conjunction with #FabulousFallBounty. All opinions are honest and my own.

Delicious fall vegetables and chestnuts are roasted and then quickly glazed in a bit of maple and butter for a luscious side. It tastes amazing and sounds sinful but is a delicious and nutritious side dish.

This week is going to be so much fun! We are celebrating the fall harvest and fall flavors and each dish is bringing something new and fun to the table. Melissa's was nice enough to send me a HUGE box of fall produce for recipe development.

I knew it was coming but was still shocked at all it held. There were so many goodies. Some are fall favorites in our house and other things were fruits and vegetables we had never tried. What a fun excuse to broaden our culinary experiences and tickle our pallets.

Easy Family Meal Plan Week 45

Fresh bread, delicious dinners and fun cookies. This week's menu is planned and it is going to be a hit with your family!

Are you all ready for Thanksgiving?  It really snuck up on me. I looked at the calendar on Monday and my eyes about popped out of my head when I saw that Thanksgiving is next week. It's less than a week away! That means if your turkey is in the freezer, it's about time to move it to the refrigerator.  If you aren't sure how long it will take to thaw, I posted a handy chart on Facebook.  You can check it out!  (Hint: if it's a big bird, you better get to thinking about it ASAP!)

Velvety Maple Pumpkin Pie Baked Oatmeal

This baked oatmeal tastes like fall and has a texture more like a baked pudding than the baked oatmeal you are used to. You have to try it to believe it!

Those of you who have been here a while know that Jax and I love our baked oatmeal.  I used to really enjoy a dense baked oatmeal, but lately we have been really into fluffier baked oatmeal.  Ever since we made the hot cocoa baked oatmeal for the first time, we have been hooked to recipes that end up with a consistency that is part pudding and part oatmeal.  I just knew that consistency would be perfect for this recipe.  It would have the creamy custard properties you love in a pumpkin pie with just enough oatmeal chew so you don't forget that is what you are eating after all.

No Bake Key Lime Cheesecake Jars

These cute little key lime cheesecakes only take 6 ingredients and just a few minutes to make. They are a perfect individual dessert that travel well. Make a batch for your next party!

Mini little desserts are always so much fun to make and eat.  It is exciting to get your own single serve dessert. Plus it is good portion control.  If you are served a little chocolate bundt cake or a cute little jar of dessert you don't accidentally cut yourself a ginormous piece. Not that would ever happen. Never ever. Not here. Uh-uh. No way.

Sides and Pies, Thankgiving Inspiration with Celebrate365

It's time to get inspired for Thanksgiving! Plenty of pie and side inspiration to help you fill up your menu!

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? We are hosting my husband's family this year and we are quite excited about it.  Though Thanksgiving has a lot of traditional foods that must be on the table each year, it is fun to have a surprise or two up our sleeve.  It keeps it fun and exciting.

Easy Family Meal Plan Week 44

This week's menu is planned for you.  We have five great family friendly dinner recipe and a fun treat for making through another busy week!

Somehow it already feels like the year is wrapping up.  We are to that point in the year where every moment seems spoken for. Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  Nana and I have already had the planning chat divvying up the duties. I am getting excited.

Of course Little Dude has been begging to put up the Christmas decorations.  He has had his list hanging by the fireplace since September.  We made a paper chain the other day so we have an idea how far away the big day is.  He rearranged how it was hanging today and sat back to admire his work.  It is so much fun that he gets sooooo excited about this stuff.  We have our first Christmas party the week following Thanksgiving and the next the following week.  I AM NOT READY! I would love to be done with the gift buying and whatnot but I barely have the list of who we should by for put together.

Brown Sugar Dijon Pork Roast and Vegetables Sheet Pan Supper

OXO provided me with product to use in recipe development in this post. All opinions are honest and my own.

This simple sheet pan meal doesn't take a lot of prep, but pays off big in flavor. It is easy enough for a family dinner but nice enough to serve to guests!

I feel like  we did our best to enjoy summer and all it had to offer. Our tomato plants were prolific. We had peppers, beets, carrots, broccoli, blackberries and more. We had berry laden salads, meat on the grill and zucchini every way you could imagine including in an almost apple pie and zapple crisp!

As much as we appreciated all of that, I was still looking forward to fall. I just love the colors and flavors of fall!

MiMi's Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Baked Oatmeal

This baked oatmeal is hearty, delicious and tastes like a giant soft oatmeal raisin cookie.  It is a perfectly cozy breakfast for a cool morning.

The love for baked oatmeal is spreading throughout my family!  I love coming up with new flavor combinations for baked oatmeal.  Most of them are dessert inspired.  We have enjoyed everything from brownie baked oatmeal to pecan pie baked oatmeal.  There's the strawberry cheesecake baked oatmeal and even pineapple right side up baked oatmeal.  That is just a small sampling of our favorites.  In fact the luscious maple pumpkin pie baked oatmeal would be a perfect way to start Thanksgiving, just saying!

Easy Family Meal Plan Week 43

Your weekly menu is planned for you.  Family friendly dinners, a snack and perfect pie to get us ready for the holiday season!

Another week is in the books.  We have made it through the soup cook-off, the bags tournament, my husband's birthday and now today is my birthday.  We are working through the Thanksgiving plans.  Little Dude has already requested doing gingerbread houses ASAP and the girls at work are excitedly planning a cookie baking day.  That should be a lot of fun.  So as the holiday season comer rolling in, it is nice to have the weekly dinners planned and ready to go.

Caramel Apple Punch

This caramel apple punch couldn't be simpler to make. With just 3 ingredients, it takes almost no time to make. It is perfect for fall parties!

It may be a bit retro, but I still think a party calls for punch! They are a festive way to quench your thirst.  Usually we make some sort of variation of aloha punch. It is a favorite around here and you can play with the flavors a bit to keep it interesting.

However our soup's on soup-off was in the heart of fall and a tropical punch with and sherbet seemed a little out of place. But what to do instead?

S'mores Cookie Cups

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #HolidayFlavorsAreHere #CollectiveBias

Treat your holiday guests to a hot cup of coffee and a s’mores cookie cup to make their day extra special. Graham flavored cookies cradle marshmallow and chocolate making the iconic flavors quick and easy to grab and eat while visiting with family and friends.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  I just love everything about the holiday season.  There is just something so cozy and fun about this time of the year. First, come the fun decorations and all of the excitement. Then, there’s the constant excuse to get together with friends and family, and with that comes plenty of excuses to bake! Yippee!

Soup's On Soup-Off

Hi, my name is Carlee and I come from a (slightly) competitive family. If there's a way to make a competition out of it, we are sure to find it!

There are usually at least a few people competing in the annual biggest pumpkin contest. This year it was two brothers and my dad vying for the title, but in years past my youngest sister has been a contender.

Easy Family Meal Plan Week 42

With six family friendly dinner recipes and one perfectly fall dessert, we have this week's menu planned for you!

What a weekend already! Have you been having fun too?  We had a Halloween party with Little Dude's daycare friends yesterday. They had snacks, did some art, sang songs, played games and had a blast.  After that my husband hosted a bags tournament.  We call them bags, but I have heard them call corn-hole.  Do you know the game? You throw bean bags at a board. If it lands on the board you get a point, if it goes in the hole it's three points.  If you throw it where most of mine land, otherwise known as on the grass by the board, no points are scored.

Italian Beef Pizza

All of the flavors and textures of a delicious Italian beef sandwich in pizza form. It is full of flavor and so much fun to eat!

Did you know it's National Pizza Month? Neither did I. Luckily I have some good friends who know this kind of stuff though. And once you know a thing like that you have to celebrate! I mean, it's only right!

Moroccan Lamb Stew

Moroccan Lamb Stew is hearty, flavorful and warm.  It is perfect nestled on a bed of couscous and is sure to leave you full and satisfied.

This stew is so full of flavor! The lamb is the perfect foil for all of the Moroccan spice. This is a perfect warm you up kind of meal that we enjoy all fall and winter long. I love how hearty it is and that it is relatively simple to make despite the big flavors!

Easy Family Meal Plan 41

We've done the hard part for you, the menu is planned! With 6 dinner recipes and a super fun dessert, all you need to do is make it.

Welcome, welcome! Sorry for the later post time this week.  It has been a bit crazy around here.  Work was escpecially hectic this week and we had our Soup's On Soup-off this weekend.  I was terrible about taking pictures so I am not sure if I have enough to do a write-up.  I'll see what I can drum up.  But it was a lot of fun!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Sourdough Muffins #Choctoberfest

Nutritious delicious and oh so good. Finally you can make chocolate peanut butter muffins and eat them too, guilt free!

I am starting to wonder if a week devoted to chocolate goodness is enough? Maybe we need to do this #choctoberfest stuff monthly instead of annually. What do you think?

I have seen all sorts of fun cookies and cakes I want to try.  There were even some savory dishes sprinkled in. I am sad that the mini bundt cakes are gone and I'm counting down the hours until I have an excuse to make more peanut butter whipped cream

Mini Chocolate Bundt Cakes with Peanut Butter Whipped Cream #Choctoberfest

Imperial Sugar provided me with sugar for recipe development in conjunction with #choctoberfest. All opinions are my own.

Perfect single sized chocolate cakes drizzled with a chocolaty glaze and topped with peanut butter whipped cream.  They are a little indulgent and perfect for a party!

Sometimes you just have one of those days when you need a whole cake. Like to yourself. The whole dang thing! No? Just me? Forget I said anything!

Starting over. There is something extra fun about mini desserts and extra big desserts. Can we agree on that at least? Whew!

Skillet Monster Cookie (Spiderwebs Optional!) #Choctoberfest

One of our all time favorite cookies, a monster cookie is taken to epic proportions and baked in a skillet. With crisp edges and a chewy center ever piece has the best of both worlds. Rich fudge frosting and a cute spider web take it to the next level!

Something spooky is coming to town. Mwah-ha-ha! Well that is if you consider peanut butter, oatmeal, candy and fudge frosting spooky.  I personally find each and every one of those things to be wonderful. In fact that lists a lot of my most favorite things.

Crocktober Linkup #Celebrate365

As the busy fall season gets into full swing and we want comfort food at it's finest, it's time to break out the slow cookers and instant pots. Here's a chance to share your favorites and be inspired!

This time of year is always extra busy for us.  We are in the middle of birthday season, there is holiday after holiday and I can't help but to throw in an extra party here and there. It seems to happen every year.  Couple the busy days with cooler weather and a hankering for comfort food and it is the perfect time to pull out the slow cooker.

Easy Family Meal Plan Week 40

We have this week's menu planned for you! With 6 family friendly dinner recipes and a fun (and spooky) dessert, the deciding is done!

Another week, another menu!  Deciding what to make is always the hardest part for me, so it is nice to have some of the work done.  Now that fall seems to have rolled into town and will likely be staying this time, heartier more comforting meals are just the ticket.

Maw-Maw's Lamb Curry

This simple curry was created by my Maw-Maw and is full of memories for my mom. I think you will agree that it is a hearty and flavorful meal!

This recipe for lamb curry is super simple but so easy.  It is a perfect fall or winter meal that sticks to your ribs. My Maw-Maw created this recipe way back when my my mom quickly remembered it when we were looking for old family recipes. Her fond memories were fun to relive while making the dish.

Chili Cheese Spritz Crackers

These crackers are cute as can be and packed fulled of cheddar, chili and just a bit of kick.

Chili season is upon us! That means there's a pot on the stove and a game on the TV almost every weekend. The back door is open, come on over!

Most of the time I make a venison chili with a mix of lots of beans and whatever else strikes my fancy. No two pots are the exact same, but they are similar and my husband's favorite.

Dori's Beer Bread

Homemade beer bread is so easy to make and a perfect accompaniment to stew, soup, chili and more.  It is also perfect on it's own with just a schmear of butter!

This is one of the original recipes that was sent it when I put out that initial call for recipes from family and friends way back when.  Who would have guessed that a quick email like that would have resulted in a blog that is still going strong almost three years later?!  It has been a wild ride to say the least.  A lot of those early recipes that are the real reason why this blog is here are in need of some updating.  I hope to work my way back through them as time allows.  When I made the apple pumpkin chili, I knew this beer bread with a hard cider twist would be a perfect side and I was right!

Fall Harvest Pumpkin Sourdough Muffins

There is a ton of fall flavor packed into the muffins. Apples, pumpkin and cranberries join forces with sourdough to bring you surprisingly healthy but still deliciously tender muffins.

Fall is finally here and I couldn't be happier. I've always liked fall but I've been looking forward to it this year more than most. I'm ready for it all!

Of course one of the things I'm looking most forward to is baking! Cooler weather makes it feel so cozy to have something in the oven and the smells of fall baking are the best.

Apple Ale Pumpkin Chili

This chili is loaded with fall flavors! It is perfect for game day or for warming you when it's chili outside!

Crisp nights, bonfires, warm apple cider, sweaters, hoodies, football and chili! Fall is finally rolling in everyone and I couldn't be more excited! I love fall weather, fall clothes and fall flavors. Now if only we could find a way to make fall last until spring!

Cheesecake Stuffed Pumpkin Bundt Cake

This slightly spiced pumpkin bundt cake is dotted with chocolate chips and stuffed with a cheesecake layer. Fall is here and it tastes good!

I always feel a little bit bad starting pumpkin week. After spending the last month prepping you for #appleweek, I barely have time to get you excited for all things pumpkin. But I have a feeling if you are team pumpkin, you won't mind the lack of notice and prep.  Besides I did give you a bit of a warning in the peanut butter yogurt dip post, so you shouldn't feel completely blindsided!
