Casseroles are such a classic family meal. I am sure we all grew up with a few in the regular menu rotation.  We should bring them back! Check out this collection of recipes and start working your way through the collection. You will be hooked in no time!

I don't know about you, but I actually like making dinner.  Or at least I like making dinner as long as I have an idea.

Figuring out what to make and having everything ready is the hard part.  Making it is the easy part.  So, I am taking the work out of it for you by giving you a full week's worth of casserole recipes to make for your family.  All you have to do is make the grocery list!

Casserole, hot dish or bake?

The terms casserole, hot dish and bake can all be used interchangeably to mean the same thing.  Most consist of a starch, sauce and protein together.

Some have cheese or a crunchy topping on top and a lot of them have a vegetable mixed in.  Many are a full meal in one dish, though most would be best served with a simple salad or veggie on the side.

Why are casseroles so wonderful?

In addition to being a whole meal in one dish, there are other benefits to casseroles.  For instance, most can be assembled ahead of time and baked later.

Some can even be assembled and frozen, then baked later. That way you can batch your work and have easy dinners for later.

Of course the fact they can be prepped ahead makes them ideal for delivering food for new parents or a thinking of your delivery.  Or just make it ahead for your own family so you have a home cooked meal on a busy night!

creamy beef and noodle casserole

This creamy beef and noodle casserole is a family pleaser for sure. It is loaded with pasta, cottage cheese, ground beef and tomatoes.

Of course a nice layer of golden melted cheese on top never hurt a thing.  It is popular even with picky eaters and is sized to feed a full family.

big dish of grandma's chicken broccoli casserole

Grandma's chicken and broccoli casserole is one of my most popular casseroles both in our house and in yours. Lots of you have made it and shared pictures on Pinterest and I love seeing them all!

I originally got the recipe from my husband's grandma and we instantly fell in love.  Now we make it any time we have leftover chicken or turkey that needs to be used up!

buffalo chicken with cheesy ranch potatoes

If you like a little spice in your dinner, you are going to love this buffalo chicken casserole with cheesy ranch potatoes. It is creamy, cheesy and spicy goodness.

The corn flake crumb top adds nice crunch and the flavors all work so well together.  It has been requested several times by my siblings after they had it the first time.

Tamale pie casserole

If you are in the mood for some Tex-Mex flavor, try this Turkey Tamale Pie.  It is super easy, full of flavor and a great way to change up your dinner routine!

spaghetti and meatball casserole

If you like Italian food, try this fun twist on the classic.  Spaghetti and meatball casserole puts it all in one with a layer of cheese baked on top.

chicken parmesan and pasta bake

Or maybe chicken parm is more your style. Then whip up some chicken Parmesan and pasta bake.

It is a great way to use some leftover shredded chicken.  We often make big piles of chicken breasts just to turn it into dinners like this.

scalloped potatoes and pork chops

My maw-maw made this scalloped potato and pork chop dish when my mom was a kid.  Then she made it for us.  Now I make it for my family.

It is a great way to get your meat and potatoes all in one. Plus the pork chops help add flavor to the potatoes below!

No boil pasta bake is a great dump and go dinner.  You don't have to boil the noodles or brown the sausage, just put it all in raw and let the oven do the work!

Now that you have a great collection of hot dishes to choose from, which one will you make first?

  1. I LOVE making dinner too but some nights want the guessing work out of it. Meal planning makes me happy and these recipes make me eager to try them and very hungry, lol!!

    1. I definitely like to at least have a few ideas in my head going into the week.... I don't always make what I intended, but at least it gives me a backup plan!

  2. Hi Carlee, have you bought a recipe book out yet. I know these aren't your recipes, but you could have a guest section at the back! Again this sounds like another fine selection of meals to get through the week.

    1. Don't these look great? And it would be so much fun to make a cook book. Maybe one of these years ;-) Thanks as always, Debbie!

  3. I'm with you, it's the planning that's hard! Especially when no one can seem to come up with a single idea. At my house, my Dad is ever helpful. Steak. It's always his answer, lol!! There's some great inspiration, here. I'm loving the idea of the tamale pie!

    1. My husband is along the lines of your dad. He only suggests steak, burgers, tacos and spaghetti. All fine, but we need some variety! I love the tamale pie. I think I need to make a different variation on it soon!

  4. I love this post. There is nothing like a good old casserole when things are hectic, but there are still people to be fed!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. I love reading your ideas!
