They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it is hard to devote busy morning time to making it. You can win the breakfast rat race by making this fabulous honey and pear steel cut oatmeal in your instant pot.

It cooks while you get ready and a hot and nutritious breakfast will be waiting for you in the end.  It is a fabulous way to start the day!

I absolutely love the chewy texture of steel cut oatmeal, but the longer cooking time keeps me from making it as often as I’d like.  Learning how to make it in an electric pressure cooker has changed all that!

We have been getting some yummy Asian pears from our CSA and neighbor recently gifted us some pears as well.  So I thought it would be fun to turn some into breakfast.

They add such a nice subtle taste and sweetness to the oatmeal.  And they go deliciously with just a hint of cinnamon.

If you don’t happen to have any pears on hand, apples would be a great option as well.  Either add such a fabulous fall flavor.

To add just a bit more flavor and goodness to the mix, I drizzled in some honey.  If you don’t have honey on hand, maple syrup would be a great substitute.

Once you have everything loaded in the instant pot, hit go and continue about your business.  Before you know it breakfast will be ready.

Any time you cook a starchy or thicker recipe in the pressure cooker, you want to be especially careful when opening the lid.  Of course you want to be careful any time though!

I like to cover the steam vent with a slightly damp wash cloth when opening it.  That helps to catch any starchy spray that may develop.

Also, when opening the lid, open it away from you.  Or let it sit for an extra minute or two before opening the lid.

Though most of the time everything is perfectly ok, there is the chance that a steam bubble can be trapped under a thicker liquid like is the case for oatmeal. The same can be said when doing a fatty recipe like pulled pork.

You don’t want that bubble to rise to the surface the exact second you are opening the lid.  Being aware of the possibility can save you getting splattered with hot food.

Even if the chance is small, it is worth being careful.

I made this recipe in my 6 quart instant pot.  An 8 quart instant pot would work as well.

Once your oatmeal is ready you can eat it just as it is.  I like adding a little fresh fruit to the top to add texture and flavor.

Of course some toasted pecans sprinkled on top would be a great addition.  An additional drizzle of honey is never a bad idea either!

Store any leftover in the refrigerator.  They can be reheated in the microwave or on the stove with an additional splash of milk or water.

Getting your day off on the right foot with this nutritious and delicious breakfast is sure to help the rest of the day go a little smoother!

More great breakfast ideas:

Make easy egg bites in the Instant Pot for a quick and easy breakfast or protein filled snack. You can use whatever add ins you like similar to an omelet to personalize them to make them your own.

Loaded with apple flavor and that hearty steel cut oatmeal chew, apple pie oatmeal is sure to be a favorite fall breakfast.  Grab a spoon and dig in!

Maple cinnamon steel cut oats made in the instant pot is another great option. They have the warm flavors of maple syrup and cinnamon and makes your house smell lovely as it cooks.
