Rice krispie treats decorated with white chocolate and candy eyeballs to look like mummies.

If you are looking for a simple but cute Halloween treat, you have come to the right place. Turn fat chewy rice krispie treats into fun mummies in just a few minutes. These no bake treats are great for classroom parties, pumpkin carving get togethers, costume parties and more.

Rice crispy treats are one of those nostalgic desserts for a lot of people.  Maybe your mom made them for you as a kid, so they bring back memories.

Or maybe because they are simple and no bake, they were one of the first recipes you could make on your own. No matter the reason, it seems a lot of people turn into a kid again at the site of a plate of them.

Luckily they are also super fun to play with. You can stir in exciting things to give them different flavors, or you can decorate them in super fun ways.

In this recipe, we take big thick chewy rice crispy treats and add some white chocolate and eyeballs to turn them into mummies. They are so easy anyone can do it and you can whip out a big batch in almost no time at all.

Making the Rice Crispy Treats

This recipe requires almost no measuring. Just gather, dump and go.

It does use two bags of marshmallows and an entire box of crisp rice cereal.  So the resulting bars are thick and chewy.

If you prefer a thinner bar, feel free to half the recipe or use a half sheet pan instead of a 9×13″ pan.

I tend to use my biggest glass bowl and the microwave to melt the marshmallows and mix it all up. You could use a stockpot on the stove if you prefer.

Just melt the butter and marshmallows over low heat, stirring frequently until it stirs smooth. Then remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cereal.

After scooping the mixture into your greased pan, you’ll want to press them down to help them for cohesive bars. You can use your fingers or a spatula, but it tends to get sticky.

If you have the paper from your stick of butter, use the side that touched the butter to press the marshmallow mixture in the pan. Otherwise, I like to spray the bottom of a measuring cup with nonstick spray and use that to apply pressure.

Once the mixture has cooled and set, it should be east enough to remove the whole batch from the pan. Place it on a cutting board and cut them into squares or rectangles in whatever size you desire.

Decorating the Mummies

Turning your rice krispie treats into mummies is simple and fun. There are really only two things you have to watch out for.

First, you need to be careful not to scorch or burn the white chocolate. The second is make sure the base coat is set before you add the wraps.

Again, I tend to use a glass bowl and the microwave to melt my white chocolate. I use a white chocolate that is specially formulated for dipping, almond bark would also work if that’s your preference.

Just use short bursts of time in the microwave, about 20 seconds, and stir really well in between. As soon as the mixture will stir smooth, you are ready to go.

If you prefer, you can melt the chocolate in a double boiler on the stove. Just be sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the double boiler and no water touches the chocolate.

Now dip one side of each crispy treat into the melted white chocolate. Place it dipped side up on a wax paper sheet and place two small eyeball candies about 1/3 of the way from the top.

Allow the chocolate to set naturally or place the tray in the refrigerator for a minute or two to harden the chocolate. Honestly you could stop here and have cute little ghost treats.

Or you could scoop the remaining melted white chocolate into a plastic baggie.  Cut a tiny hole in the corner and drizzle on mummy wraps!

If the wraps start to melt into the base white chocolate layer, that base layer isn’t set enough. Pop them in the fridge for just a minute longer.

Otherwise just have fun with it. They don’t have to be perfect, they’ll be cute no matter what!

I made some fun monster rice crispy treats to serve with these. A batch of each would be a perfect way to feed a whole class full of kids or your entire Halloween party guest list.

Good morning Carlee, these do take me back to when the children were little. I was only wondering the other day if I could make rice krispie treats without having children in the house? Only if I'm prepared to go up a dress size or two!... I do love them.
