Bubble Up Pizza

Bubble up pizza is part super easy casserole and part, well… pizza! It only takes a few minutes to throw together and the whole family will love it!

Bubble up pizza is a throwback to my childhood. It is a super fast and easy dinner option that can easily be customized with your favorite pizza toppings. The results were a favorite meal of my family growing up and is still making an appearance at our table today.

If you are looking for a super simple meal to get on the table, you are in the right place  I think the ease with which this comes together is a huge part of why my mom like making it so much when we were kids.

That and the fact that nobody complained when it was on the menu! I am the oldest of six kids, so there was always dance practice, baseball, soccer and school activities to run between.

Yet my parents made it a priority to have as many of us at the dinner table as possible each evening. So having some easy recipes in the arsenal was a must.

I think we picked up the idea of bubble up pizza at one of those in home sales parties. This and the garlic mushroom flatbreads became staples at our house after that.

It’s so easy the kids can make it!

If you can open a can of biscuits, you can make this. It really is that simple.

If you can’t open the can, have your kids do it! 🤣 I don’t mind the pop of those biscuit cans, but Little Dude loves the surprise so it’s his job.

He also did the work of cutting the biscuits into quarters. We used kitchen shears to make it super simple but a knife works too.

Meanwhile make sure your oven is preheating and you have a pan sprayed with cooking spray ready to go. Then all you have to do is open a can of pizza sauce and choose your toppings.

We had pepperoni and mushrooms on this particular night. If you want to sneak some extra veggies in, green peppers and onions would be a fabulous addition.

You can also use bits of browned sausage or some ham if you prefer. If you want meatless, that is fine too all cheese or cheese and vegetables works too!

I basically just help gather the ingredients and transfer the pan to and from the oven. Little Dude is more than capable of the rest of dinner prep at 6 years old.

If he can do it, you can too!

Making A Bigger Batch

Growing up, my mom would always double the recipe. I would put a layer of cheese in the middle and another on top to make sure it’s all as tasty as can be.

Just make sure your baking dish is plenty deep or switch from a 9×13″ pan to a lasagna pan. Those biscuits will puff up as they bake and you don’t want a mess in the oven.

It will take a few extra minutes in the oven to bake it through. Check it after an additional 5 minutes or so and see if the center is done.

Since there are just 3 of us at home the recipe as written was plenty for us and some leftovers.

Does this recipe remind you of days gone by as well? Maybe you called it pizza pull apart bread or puffed up pizza casserole?

No matter what you call it, I think we should put it back in the rotation! The only decision is which toppings to try first.

For another fun twist on pizza, try making a pizza crescent ring. It’s a lot like this, but in a pull apart ring rather than a casserole. It is fun for dinner or as a game day snack.
